Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17: A local court today permitted police to take Dipti Ranjan Patnaik in their remand to find out the alleged involvement of more than one persons in the Bachan Sudha Pattanayak murder case.
Though Dipti is believed to be the main accused in the murder case, it is suspected that many others might be involved in the murder.
Family members of the 53-year-old woman, who was found murdered at her residence at Sabar Sahi in Rasulgarh on September 11, had alleged involvement of more than one person in the crime.
“Dipti will remain in police remand from September 18 to September 22. We are also verifying his call details to find out involvement of other people in the crime,” said a police officer.
Sources said Dipti, who had a volatile temper, once even tried to beat his employer. “Bachan used to scold Dipti for his petty mistakes. That might also have provoked Dipti to kill her,” said a source.
In another development, residents of an apartment located on Cuttack-Puri Road today lodged a complaint against Dipti and the private security agency in which he used to work.
“On April 14, valuables worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen from two of our houses. We had also lodged a complaint against Dipti and the security agency with Laxmisagar police station. If the police had taken timely action against Dipti, the situation would have been different,” said a resident of the apartment.
The police are also planning to interrogate the owner of the private security agency, which had deployed security guards at Bachan’s house.
Earlier, the police had also said that the security agency was operating without a licence.
Dipti was arrested on Saturday. Cops said robbery was the intention behind the murder of Bachan.
