UCO Bank censured

Bhubaneswar: The Press Council of India has censured UCO Bank for distributing Rs 200 to correspondents during a press briefing of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on November 11, 2014 at Puri. The inquiry committee disapproved the bank’s conduct. The panel expected journalists to refuse gifts and maintain a high ethical standard.

Snatcher held

Bhubaneswar: Police on Saturday arrested history sheeter Babu Khan, 28, from Haladi Padia slum and recovered eight gold chains weighing more than 100 grams. The police said that Khan was involved in more than 15 chain-snatching cases in the city.

Bypoll peaceful

Bhubaneswar: The by-election of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s ward No. 17 was completed peacefully on Saturday, officials said. Sources said that only 3.16 lakh voters turned up at the seven polling booths. Polling was delayed by 15 minutes at the booth in Utkal University’s Sanskrit department due to a technical glitch. There were also allegations of false voting in another booth. The result would be declared on Monday.

Bodies found

Kendrapara: The charred remains of a 25-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter were recovered from their house in Rajkanika block of  Kendrapara district.
