Bhubaneswar, Oct. 7: Several skin, hair care and sessions on healthy living for women are being organised in the city keeping Durga Puja in mind.

Nutritionist Eshani Biswas last week spoke about the nutritional needs of women at the different stages of life. Organised by a cosmetics group, the session aimed at creating awareness about the need for a wholesome diet and nutritional supplements for modern women.

“Women need certain nutrients such as iron, folic acid, calcium and omega 3 fatty acids in higher quantity at certain stages of life. A woman loses 60mg of iron every month after she attains puberty and may risk turning anaemic. At this stage, there should be more emphasis on iron supplementation that boosts metabolism and keeps fatigue at bay,” said Biswas.

Sanghamitra Satpathy, consultant obstetric, gynaecologist and laparoscopic surgeon, elaborated on the post-menopausal challenges faced by women and the need of supplementation to combat it. “Nutrition is fairly important to bring lifestyle diseases under control among women and it is also crucial to raise the awareness level about the need of nutrition to stay healthy,” said Satpathy.

In a bid to sensitise the importance of proper skin care and perfect grooming, the same group organised a festive beauty and skin care workshop recently. Titled Shine and Sparkle, the session imparted tips on effective skin care. Beauty and skincare specialist Darshini Sanghvi spoke on aging and it effects on the skin, challenges faced by women and effective anti-aging skincare regimen. The highlight of the event was a makeover session where Sanghvi gave volunteers a chic look with new shades of lipsticks and nail colours.

Internationally known hairstylist Emma Ekman was in the city on Saturday to teach a few tricks to local beauticians. Hailing form Sweden, she gave a live demonstration of snipping and colouring. She suggested all present to use products and style that suits the individual personality. The seminar aimed at spreading awareness among Odisha-based hair stylists with methodologies of the west. Around 200 beauticians attended the seminar.

“I was looking for such sessions and thankfully they are being organised in the city these days,” said Upasana Mishra, a corporate employee.
