Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: Candidates, who failed to turn up for junior college admissions despite figuring in the first selection merit list, will have to register their names at their preferred college on August 23.
These candidates will be considered during the “balance seat” admissions to be held from August 21 to 25. “The registration will be accepted at the colleges on August 23 till 2pm. The colleges will then shortlist the candidates according to merit and publish the list of applicants selected by 5pm on the same day,” said a higher education official.
Further, students, who had not been selected for admissions so far, would also get a chance to apply afresh through the registration form for spot admission. The form can be downloaded from the higher education department’s website (www.dheorissa.in).
“However, the first category of applicants — those who made it to the first selection merit list but did not take admissions because of various reasons — would be given preference in the balance seat round,” said the official.
Over 2.55 lakh applicants had been intimated for the first selection admission, of which nearly 2.21 lakh have already confirmed their seats. The state has 1,334 junior colleges having a combined strength of 3.13 lakh seats.
Many junior colleges in the capital had been left with vacant seats at the end of the first round. Candidates who were shortlisted for the SC/ST extension seat selection, but could not take admission, would also be able to enrol themselves till August 25.
“Many of them failed to produce college leaving certificates from the institution they were last admitted in the Plus Two admission process. So, we have extended the dates for them. They can take provisional admission by signing an undertaking to furnish the documents by August 31,” an official said.
