A world of opportunities

The National Law University of Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack, was given ‘A grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council last month. The NAAC team conducted a review of the infrastructure and other facilities at the university in August.

The National Law University of Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack, was given ‘A grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council last month. The NAAC team conducted a review of the infrastructure and other facilities at the university in August. The standing committee constituted by the executive committee accredited NLUO with the ‘A’ grade for five years. Besides, the university has also been selected to organise the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) of the ministry of human resources based on the successful completion of two important courses.

Biz talk

A two-day SAI International College of Commerce (SICC) Business Conclave 2016 was inaugurated on October 3. Sidharth Rath, group executive, corporate relationship and transaction banking, Axis Bank, was present on the occasion. Rath said it was required to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship in the youth today and empower them with adequate knowledge for building a great nation. More than 1,500 students from various schools and colleges attended the event. There were various events for the students such as Quizzimodo —  a quiz competition, StartupDisc, Brainboxer’s Bureau Contest, Drama -O-Cratic, Market Strike and other events. A discussion on business acumen was also organised.

Green drive

The department of teacher’s education in Central University of Odisha, Koraput, organised an environmental awareness programme in Balda village. The programme was organised as an initiative to create awareness among villagers on health, hygiene, sanitation, watershed management and plantation. Vice-chancellor of the university Sachidananda Mohanty congratulated the department on the initiative. The trainee teachers of third semester BEd course organised the awareness programme through a rally, street play and door-to-door awareness drive. During the programme, the students demonstrated health, sanitation, education, waste materials management, demerits of alcoholism, water preservation, importance of plantation and superstitions. The villagers of Balda took part in the programme and shared their views. 

Warm welcome

A freshers’ welcome programme was organised at Tapaswini hostel of Government Women’s College in Sambalpur recently. Senior students of the hostel gave a warm welcome to the newcomers. Several cultural programs and a meeting were organised on the occasion. Principal of college Archana Nayak was the chief guest. Superintendent of the hostel Pushpa Minj and assistant superintendent Nibediata Nath also attended the event. The meeting was co-ordinated by general secretary Babli Khamari and cultural secretary Gargy Padhee. 

Mental health

In a world full of stress, psychological help is required at times to help people with their problems, said the experts at a programme organised to mark the World Mental Health Week at SOA University.

Surjeet Sahoo, head of the psychiatry department at the Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital, said: “A mentally ill person, if not properly counselled and treated, could cause havoc.  A recent incident in Odisha, when a woman threw her three young children into a well killing all of them, is a case in point.”

Rural market

RMAX, the Rural Managers' Association of Xavier Institute of Management (XUB), Bhubaneswar, organised their annual marketing event Gramotsava 2016 recently. The students of rural management visited Niali, a village in Cuttack district and organised a series of events. The theme for this year was “Skill India” and the purpose of the event was to reach the rural fraternity and spread awareness on various skills that can be learnt and showcased with the help of rural marketing. There were kiosks of different companies such as Smart Solar, IIFCO, Anmol Biscuits, Jyoti Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, and Free Eye (Vision Spring). 

A dental check-up kiosk was also put up. In addition to this, there were games and competitions organised by the students, which saw a large participation from the local residents. Anmol Biscuits organised a talent hunt for children that included a series of events such as painting, singing and dancing. The local residents visited the kiosks to gain an insight on the latest products and the technologies that propel them. For many of villagers, this was a first time interaction of this sort and they took part in large numbers. The students organised the entire event with great enthusiasm. Gramotsava is the flagship event organised by the RMAX committee of XUB and is held every year.
