Rourkela, Sept. 13: A 12-year-old boy allegedly strangulated his one-and-half-year-old cousin to death this morning in Gangadharpali area of Rourkela.

The accused killed the baby boy Abhi as he kept on crying causing discomfort to his brother, who was babysitting him. Abhi was rushed to the government hospital after his father found the child’s motionless body lying on the floor of his house after coming from work.

The father reported the matter to Raghunathpali police. A case was registered against the accused.

The inspector in charge of Raghunathpali police station R.C. Dora said the father of the deceased was a daily wage labourer and had gone out for work around 7am today leaving his baby boy and eight-year-old daughter with his brother-in-law’s son, who had been staying with him for the last one year.

“When he came home around 11.30am, he found the door was bolted from outside and his daughter was roaming outside the house. He did not find his nephew. When he opened the door, he found the child was lying motionless on the floor. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead,” said Dora.
