Young Men win challenge

Hailakandi, March 30: Young Men’s Athletic Club (YMAC) lifted the Inter-Barak Valley T20 Challenger Trophy of the District Sports Association Hailakandi defeating Netaji Club by 25 runs in the final at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium here on Sunday.

Winning the toss, YMAC batted first and scored 122 runs losing nine wickets. In reply, Netaji Club were all out for 97 runs. Krishnendu Das topscored for YMAC with 47 runs, hitting two fours and three sixes, while Raju Suklavaidya scored 24 and Rehan Mazumdar 17.

Samik Das, Nihar Paul, Raju Das and Raja Roy picked up two wickets each giving away 33, 10, 20 and 32 runs respectively. Krishnendu Das was adjudged the Man of the Match while Raju Das of Digjyoti Club was named Man of the Tournament.

The chairman of Santosh Kumar Roy Cricket Academy and Algapur legislator Rahul Roy and others gave away the prizes. Roy, in his address, hoped that these T20 tournaments would boost the standard of the game.

All-Assam T20

Tengakhat Cricket Academy, Dibrugarh, defeated New Generation Club, Tezpur, by 15 runs while Naharkatia Cricket Academy edged past X Cricket Club, Jorhat, by 2 wickets to move to the second round of the All Assam Prize Money T20 Cricket Tournament at the Golaghat Public Playground, reports our correspondent from Dibrugarh.

In the first match of the day, Tengakhat Cricket Academy won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 101 losing 5 wickets in 19 overs. In reply, the Tezpur side was bowled out for 86 in 17.5 overs.

In the second match, X Cricket Club scored 123 losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Naharkatia were 83 for the loss of 8 wickets at one stage, but a 44 run unbeaten eighth wicket partnership between Lakhi Nath Gogoi (15) and Kalyan Gogoi (21) won the match for Naharkatia. River Rine Club, Guwahati will play against Sarupathar Cricket Club tomorrow.
