Imphal, April 17: An accomplished lawyer, currently working as vice-president and legal head of the popular UK-based TV channel, B4U, is in the running for a prestigious award for Asian women in England.
Meet Rina Nameirakpam Barua, a non-resident Manipuri, selected as one of the four finalists of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards in the Businesswoman of the Year-Corporate category.
Rina, eldest daughter of senior advocate Nameirakpam Pramod Chandra and Sabita Arambam of Bokulmakhong, Chingamakha Liwa Road, Imphal, now lives in Middlesex, UK. She is married to Apratim Barua, a professor.
The achievement awards, instituted by Pinky Lilani and Munir Samji in 1999, are presented by Real Business magazine, part of the organisers’ Caspian Publishing. The awards will be presented on May 8 at the Hilton in London.
Rina, after attending the University of Bangalore and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, qualified as an advocate and began her practice in the Supreme Court. She later joined Singhania & Co, the largest law firm in the country, became head of the litigation department and then moved to the UK as head of its London branch. Then she moved to B4U where she manages all legal elements of the company, including general business matters, documentation and legal audit of contracts deals, employment, trademarks, copyright infringement and other aspects of media law.
The UK-based European Manipuri Association has congratulated Rina on her achievement, saying she has done every Manipuri proud by being a nominee for this prestigious award.
