Shillong, Aug. 17: Royal Wahingdoh FC women's team annexed the Independence Day Cup thrashing Sanbhalang FC 8-1 in the final on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.

The tournament was organised by the Meghalaya Football Players' Association in collaboration with the office of the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, district sports office and state sports council.

With a tally of 17 goals, Wahingdoh's Pynhun Shulet, a prodigious striker who has gained recognition in Meghalaya for her prowess, was adjudged Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament.

Lajong win: Shillong Lajong FC played a friendly match against differently-abled students of Bethany Society, Shillong. The match was organised by the Meghalaya Sports Council for the Deaf at St Edmund's College ground on Saturday.

The SLFC's new head of youth development, Gumpe Rime, under-15 coach Seibor Sana and other club officials were also present and handed over a Lajong football kit to the best player and consolation prizes to Bethany Society players. Lajong also distributed jerseys and football kits to the other differently-abled students of Bethany Society.
