Silchar, Sept. 18: An e-law research library was inaugurated at the Assam University here today.

The library, donated by the Bimalangshu Roy Foundation, was inaugurated by the university’s vice-chancellor Somnath Dasgupta.

The e-library will enable law researchers and legal practitioners to study recent judgments and refer to archives.

A website of the Silchar Bar Association was also launched today by district judge S.K. Sharma.

Addressing the gathering, the vice-chancellor said computerisation was essential in this age.

“During our younger days, we used to think that more and more law books on the shelf make a good advocate. But the scenario has changed completely. Today, it is easier and faster to search anything on the Internet. So this unique step of creating an e-law research library is a real step forward,” he said.

Silchar MLA Sushmita Dev, Bimalangshu Roy Foundation chairman Rajdip Roy and Bar Association Secretary Subhrendu Shekhar Dutta were present at the function.
