Jan. 2: They were not to be left behind in New Year celebrations. As the city came alive with year-end revelries, streetchildern had a whale of a time, as the SOS Children’s Village, Guwahati, organised a special programme ? All for a Smile ? for them.

Over 120 streetchildren participated in the inaugural programme organised at the SOS Village at Azara yesterday. Village director Subhash Kaul and his team organised various rip-roaring programmes for them.

The children from the SOS Village greeted the street kids by showering flowers on them. After a lively interaction session, the little visitors participated in various fun-filled games with gusto.

After the games and a sumptuous meal, the little citizens were treated to a movie. The celebrations ended with Kaul distributing blankets, sweaters, jackets, water bottles and several play items to the guests.

Kaul said the children were very excited and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. “The children sang and danced, the programmes brought out their hidden talents. We tried to encourage them and make them feel at home. It was wonderful to see them having such a good time.”

“We were a little anxious in the beginning, but after sometime we began to feel at home and had a great time. Opportunities like this don’t come very often to us,” said one of the visitors. “We also made lots of friends.”
