Dibrugarh, March 13: Tinsukia Railway defeated Brahmaputra Boys by seven wickets, while Dibrugarh Blues edged out Tinsukia Cricket Academy by 19 runs to enter the semifinals of the Twenty20 cricket meet at the Chowkidingee playground here today. The meet is being organised by Pioneers’ Sporting Club in association with Dibrugarh DSA.

In the first quarterfinal match played today, Brahmaputra Boys won the toss and decided to bat first. The team scored 139 runs losing eight wickets. Basu Chowtal was the topscorer with 34 runs off 26 balls. For Tinsukia Railways, Pranjal Sarma and Salim Ahmed notched up two wickets each.

In reply, Tinsukia Railways reached their target in 17.5 overs for the loss of three wickets. Ahmed, who was eventually declared Man of the Match, scored an unbeaten 65 runs facing 50 balls, hitting eight boundaries and a six. For the Brahmaputra team, Hildul Dutta picked up two wickets for 24 runs.

In the second quarterfinal, Tinsukia Cricket Academy won the toss and deciding to bat, scored 129 runs losing seven wickets. Manjit Sarma was the topscorer with a 31-run innings, which included two fours and two huge sixes.

For Tinsukia Cricket Academy, Nayan Giri claimed two wickets giving away 20 runs. In their run chase, Tinsukia Academy managed to score 110 runs losing nine wickets. Pronob Taye captured five wickets, including a hattrick, conceding 11 runs. Abhijit Patowali was the topscorer with 28 runs.

Tomorrow, Pioneers’ Sporting Club will take on Namrup Cricket Coaching Centre, while Dibrugarh Cricket Coaching Centre will clash with Nepothaya Club of Jorhat in the other two quarterfinals.
