Imphal, June 20: It was an arduous climb but the thrill of scaling Mount Everest twice in a span of 10 days was the balm.

This is how Anshu Jamsenpa, a beaming 32-year-old, recollects what she could or could not feel on the way to the top of the world.

Jamsenpa, a native of Bomdila in West Kameng district, was speaking at the reception accorded to the three-member Team Arunachal Mt Everest Expedition at Hotel Imphal by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association today.

The two other members of the team are Tine Mina and K. Romeo Meitei. Romeo is also in charge of the adventure cell of the Arunachal Pradesh government.

The trio is associated with the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association, as Jamsenpa and Tine Mina had started their adventure sports journey, completing the basic adventure course with an ‘A’ grade, from the association in 2009 and 2008 respectively.

Later, they completed various courses from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi.

Jamsenpa’s feat, however, stands out, as she is the only Indian woman to scale Mt Everest twice in the same season.

Jamsenpa, while accepting the accolades and gifts, said she was indebted to the association for her first stint in adventure and the training she gained there, which pushed her so far.

She said the expedition started off from May 1 to 31 but in actuality she scaled the 8,848-metre high peak on May 12 and then again on May 21.

Tine Mina’s conquest was made on May 9.

However, she could not attend the felicitation today.

Jamsenpa is planning another climb in October this year. Youth affairs and sports minister D.D. Thaisii said Jamsenpa’s feat served as an inspiration for the younger generation.

He also donated Rs 15,000 to the association.

AIFF course: The All India Football Federation declared that 21 candidates have passed the AFC ‘C’ Certificate Course held in Imphal from April 1-16.
