Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said his government was making efforts to industrialise lower Assam as the region had no major industries except oil refineries in Bongaigaon.
In a meeting on Friday, organised to inaugurate Raax Mahotsav at Hari Mandir in Nalbari, Sonowal said 500 square metre of land along the national highway would be turned into a "green zone" for the purpose.
Later, it will be converted into an industrial corridor from Guwahati to Bongaigaon, he added.
"Our government is committed to generate employment opportunities for the youths and facilitate industrial development in this part of the state. Only through such steps can Assam's economy be strengthened," he said.
Sonowal promised that Nalbari district would not lag behind in development as the Assam State Capital Region would cover Nalbari in its ambit.
Saying that Nalbari has immense tourism potential which must be harnessed and that the government will take all steps in this regard, Sonowal assured the people that the state government would provide the required funds for renovation of Hari Mandir.
The meeting was presided over by Nalbari MLA Ashok Sarma. Others who attended it were MP Ramen Deka, MLA Narayan Deka, chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Board Jayanta Malla Barua, legal adviser to chief minister Shantanu Bharali, burha (head) xattriya of Barpeta Xatra Basistha Deb Sarma and adviser to AASU Samujjal Bhattacharjya.
