Guwahati, March 2: Gauhati Town Club (GTC) and Bud Cricket Club today registered thumping wins in their respective matches of the 2nd Airtel Santosh Kumar Roy Invitation Twenty20 cricket tournament under way at Nehru Stadium here.
While teenager Shiv Shankar Roy stirred GTC to a six-wicket win over Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre in the morning match, Gokul Sharma fashioned Bud’s eight-wicket victory over Radial Club, Nagaon, in the afternoon.
Put to bat first, GCCC were restricted to 108 for nine wickets. In reply, GTC reached 111 for the loss of four wickets in 16.5 overs.
After capturing two wickets for four runs off two overs, Shiv Shankar Roy topscored for GTC with 34 runs hitting three boundaries. He was later named the Man of the Match. Besides, Kunal Saikia scored a quickfire 30 and Swarupam Purkayastha remained unbeaten on 23.
Bikash Chetri of GCCC notched up three wickets giving away 16 runs off three overs.
Earlier, Pallab Das with a balanced innings of 23 runs was the topscorer for GCCC. Bitop Mahanta remained not out on 22 while Parag Das contributed a hurricane 21 off 13 balls, which included four shots to the fence. Pankaj Saikia of GTC scalped three wickets for 29 runs and Swarupam Purkayastha picked up two for 12.
In the second match, Radial elected to bat first and posted 119 runs for nine wickets. In reply, Bud Cricket Club reached 123 runs for the loss of two wickets in 18.3 overs.
Amit Sinha (25) and Dhiraj Goswami (18) were the notable scorers for Radial. Gokul Sharma, Sadek Imran Chowdhury and Tarjinder Singh of Bud shared two wickets each conceding 21, 26 and six runs respectively.
Later, Gokul Sharma topscored for Bud with an unbeaten 36 while Tarjinder Singh remained not out on 24. Moreover, Chandan Rawat scored 29. For Radial, Bichitra Baruah and Rana Sarma notched up a wicket each.
Gokul Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Radial Club will take on defending champions Food Corporation of India, Delhi, and Bud meet RS Academy, Delhi, in tomorrow’s matches. The other two teams from outside the state — Air India and Cricket Association of Bengal XI — will arrive here tomorrow.
