Guwahati, May 8: Debojit Saha went ?global? tonight. But the singing sensation from Silchar, the pride of Assam, refused the celebrity status and promised to remain a ?very ordinary man, the guy-next-door?.

Speaking at the ?world release? of his maiden album ? titled simply Debojit ? the ?Voice of India? said, with hands folded, ?You have made me a celebrity. But I am still a very ordinary man. I will always remain the guy-next-door.?

The album was released at a city hotel by Debojit, his muse and wife Bandana and business manager of Saregama India Ltd, S.F. Karim, during a brief function.

Once again thanking the people of the state, the Northeast as well as the country as a whole, Debojit said he was what he was today because of the love of the people.

?I can never forget the support I got from the people of the Northeast during the contest. This is the reason I requested for a Guwahati release for my first album,? he added.

The Saregama official acknowledged as much saying, ?It is after a long time that we are having a world release in Guwahati.?

Debojit, who belted out a couple of songs after the release, said he had high hopes on his debut album as it ?had some very sweet numbers?.

The foot-tapping title track ? My Heart Goes Duma Duma ? was being billed as a ?hit? even before the album?s release. With music by Biddu and Debojit?s guru Ismail Durbar, the album has cover versions of two hit songs, Ek Hasina Thi (Karz) and Humdum Suniyo Re (Saathiya).

?These two songs had become hits when I had performed them during the contest,? Debojit explained the reason for their inclusion.

Another Saregama official said, ?Debojit not only won a title but also billions of hearts. Immense talent, a wife who saw dreams for him, a fantastic platform and hard work catapulted the common man from Silchar to become a national hero?.

But the singer himself was all humility, accepting greetings from friends and fans alike with folded hands and a smile on his face.

Last evening, Debojit also performed for the second time within a fortnight in Dibrugarh.

His last show on April 25 there turned into a no-show after crowd violence, said to be the result of mismanagement.

This time, however, there was no stopping Debojit as he rocked the Upper Assam town with a livewire performance at the Chow-kidinghee playground, which witnessed a sea of his fans.

Debojit took to the stage exactly at 8 pm and sang several of his popular numbers, starting with a rendition of Bishnu Rabha?s timeless classic Porojanamor Subha Laganat.
