Guwahati, Dec. 14: Mriganka Jyoti Sharma’s unbeaten 68-ball 66 today ensured a five-wicket victory for strong favourites Shantipur AC against Bud Cricket Club (A) and a quarter-final berth in the Ankurjyoti Challenge Cricket Tournament organised by Ankurjyoti Club at the Latasil ground here.
BCC (A) rattled up a competitive 186 for eight in 30 overs after being reduced to 78/6 at one stage with third-down Shimanta Neogi making a fighting 48 off 60 balls, Jyoti Medhi (34 off 26 balls) and Chandan Das ( 25 off 17 balls).
Neogi hit three fours and two sixes in his unbeaten knock against an attack comprising out-of-favour Ranji pacer R.K. Yadav (3/31 in 6 overs) and Rajender Mahato (3/27). Shantipur achieved the target in 27.3 overs largely because of Sharma and Rajib Kalita’s run-a-ball knock.
While Sarma smashed three fours and four sixes in his unbeaten knock, Kalita’s 54 off 55 balls included six hits to the fence and one over it.
Utpal Medhi (13 off 8 balls) and Mahato (12 off 15 balls) were the other contributors.
Bud’s attack comprised Ranji player Gokul Sarma (2/44), Jyoti Medhi (1/30) and Sekharjyoti Barman (1/33).
Sharma was named Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, hosts Ankurjyoti Club will take on Latasil Cricket Club.
