Imphal, April 30: Six members of the People’s United Liberation Front (PULF), arrested in Mysore on Sunday, were brought here this afternoon.
Four top leaders and two cadres of the outfit’s Adam Lashkar faction were arrested by a police team, led by superintendent of police (Imphal East) Th. Radhesyam, from a Mysore hotel in an early morning raid.
The police team had trailed the rebels from Calcutta to Chennai for a week before finally catching up with them at the hotel with the assistance of Mysore police.
The four leaders arrested are “general secretary” Md Ibrahim alias Qusi alias M.I. Khan, 45, “secretary external affairs and chief of army” Md Nurjaman alias Deny, 40, “organisation-cum-publicity-secretary” Md Abdul Jabbar alias Belal Khan, 55, and “deputy commander in-chief-cum-finance secretary” Md Nasir Khan alias Thadoi alias Keshorjit alias Boy, 38.
The other two cadres have been identified as Md Mustafa and Md Nur Safi.
The six were whisked away in a police van immediately after they came out of the Imphal airport accompanied by three police officers. They are now in the custody of Imphal East police.
The police said they would interrogate the six for details about the organisation and its network.
Guwahati police had also arrested Umar Farooq, the chairman of another faction of the PULF named after him, on Monday. A Guwahati court yesterday remanded him in police custody for five days.
Farooq was netted on the basis of information provided by three cadres of the group who were arrested from different places on Sunday.
Besides the Lashkar and Farooq factions, the PULF has a third faction, led by Azad.
A source said Manipur police were planning to conduct more raids in other cities of the country, where Manipur rebels are believed to be taking shelter.
