Orang scripts Navajyoti win

Guwahati, Jan. 20: A superb bowling spell by Kon Orang helped Navajyoti Club decimate Ankurjyoti Club by 134 runs in a group league match of the Ramesh Barooah memorial inter-club cricket tournament at Judges Field here.

Put to bat, Navajyoti Club posted a decent 169 for six in 30 overs.

Sunil Ranjan Gogoi top-scored with a brilliant 65 while Nishanta Bordoloi and Kon Orang chipped in with 24 and 16 runs respectively.

For Ankurjyoti Club, Ambar Bhattacharya took three wickets for 32 runs.

In reply, the Ankurjyoti batsmen were bundled out for a paltry 35 in just 11.5 overs.

Hiranya Das remained unbeaten on 12 as he ran out of partners.

Orang led the Navajyoti Club attack and scalped five wickets for 21 runs while Asif Chetri and Bikash Chetri took three and two wickets respectively.

Orang was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round feat.Tomorrow, hosts Gauhati Town Club take on Phoenix Club.

Bud Challenge

Pace Cricket Club got the better of Santipur Athletic Club by two wickets in the inaugural match of the 9th Bud Challenge Cricket meet at Nehru Stadium today.

Santipur won the toss and elected to bat. They were all out for 142 in 29.1 overs.

The Pace men achieved the target losing eight wickets with one ball to spare in the truncated 30-overs-a-side match.

Baburam Magor topscored for Santipur with 40 runs, hitting five fours and a six, facing 46 balls. Robin Das also contributed 27 (4x3).

Bipul Koch of Pace hauled four wickets for 16 runs and Sanjib Dutta chipped in with three for 16.

Dutta scored 16 (6x1) runs for Pace to be adjudged Man of the Match.

Jitumoni Baishya (35, 4x7) and Sajid Khan (35, 4x5) topscored for the side while Sadek Imran Choudhary contributed 17.

Rajib Kalita of Santipur took three wickets for 21 runs while Bikram Chetry and Tauhid Ali Talukdar picked up two each for 13 and 32 runs.

Navajyoti Club (B) will play River Rine Club in tomorrow’s match.
