Guwahati, Jan. 30: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) and hosts Oil India Limited (OIL) annexed the men and women’s team events titles in the 29th PSPB inter-unit table tennis tournament at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here.
In the men’s final played this evening, ONGC overcame Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) 3-2. Last evening, OIL defeated Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) 3-2 to lift the women’s team title.
The men’s final was a gruelling affair where A. Amal Raj opened the ONGC account with a 11-5, 11-9, 11-9 win over Aniket Koparkar which was equalised by IOCL skipper and Olympian A. Sarath Kamal defeating Sybham Choudhury of ONGC 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6.
Randhir Das put ONGC ahead again prevailing over G. Sathiyan 11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6 and was followed by Sarath Kamal squaring it again for IOCL overcoming Amal Raj 11-5, 12-10, 12-14, 11-8.
Subham Choudhury defeated Aniket Koparkar 11-6, 11-13, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8 in the deciding match for the title.
The women’s doubles finalists were decided today with Neha Agarwal and Poulomi Ghatak of BPCL defeating Madhurika Patkar and Soumi Mondal of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd 4-1.
They will now meet Ankita Das and Puja Sahastrebudhe of OIL who blanked out K. Samini and Kasturi Chakraborty of IOCL 3-0 in the semi-finals.
The final will be played tomorrow.
