Kokrajhar, Jan. 15: A former organising secretary of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Gagan Das, 35, was killed and 10 others were injured in a grenade explosion in the heart of Udalguri town around 6.30 this evening.

According to preliminary findings, two persons on a motorcycle hurled the Chinese grenade near a swahid bedi (martyr’s memorial) close to a lodge on a busy stretch.

Superintendent of police A.K. Tiwari said all the injured have been referred to Gauhati Medical College Hospital.

The blast comes a day after unidentified assailants gunned down a Congress worker, Arun Sarkar, in the district.

The Bengali Students’ Federation has called a Udalguri district bandh tomorrow in protest against the killing.

Sarkar was the adviser of the student organisation.
