Dibrugarh, Jan. 12: Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, today edged past George Telegraph, Calcutta, by a single goal to win the 4th Oil India Challenge Gold Cup Football Tournament at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan.
Both the teams failed to score during regulation time and the match went into extra time.
Midfielder H.L. Routa scored the lone goal in the 22nd minute of extra time. Routa capitalised on a calculated minus by F. Wary from the right flank and scored through a powerful ground shot. George Telegraph coach Raghu Nandi protested and alleged that the goal was offside. Despite requests from the match commissioner, referee in-charge and technical director of the tournament, the coach allegedly abused the officials and did not allow the game to resume.
The police were called in and the coach was forced out of the stadium. The match commissioner has sent a written complaint to the Assam Football Association (AFA) and the All India Football Association (AIFF) about the coach’s behaviour.
