Kokrajhar, Feb. 5: The NTPC’s Bongaigaon Thermal Power Corporation project at Salakati in Kokrajhar district has achieved a major milestone after all the 400Kv bus-bars of the switchyard were successfully connected to the North-Eastern Grid.

A senior NTPC official said the accomplishment was a source of tremendous satisfaction to all employees as “it has been achieved after facing various constraints”. .

The generated power of 750MW (3 units of 250 MW each) at NTPC Salakati (Kokrajhar) plant will be evacuated from the switchyard through 400Kv and 220Kv outgoing lines, he said.

The unit 1 and unit 2 boiler hydro tests had been done in January 2011 and April 2012 respectively.

The last unit of the power project of the much-delayed 750MW coal-based thermal power station of a capacity of 250MW is likely to be commissioned by this fiscal.

, which the other two units in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He said that the target of the first unit is likely to complete and become operational by this fiscal year. He said the project has to face many challenges for its completion in the stipulated time. However it is going in the right track and in a speedy way.

Mention be made that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of Rs 4,720-crore project on January 16, 2006 on the premises of the defunct thermal power station of the Assam State Electricity Board. According to the original schedule, two units of the project were slated to be commissioned in the final year of the current Plan in 2011-12.

The project will use coal from the Makum coal mines in the Margherita of Assam and Eastern Coalfields spread over West Bengal and Jharkhand.
