Ex-rebels return to Manipur

The surrendered militants of the Bodo Liberation Tigers who had fled from a training centre in Manipur on June 30 have returned, Union minister of state of home affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Only one recruit, who had earlier tendered his resignation, has not returned.

Ambush

An eight-member team of the Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front carried out an ambush at Santipur police outpost in Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.

Excess grants

The Assam Assembly on Wednesday voted in favour of regularisation of excess grants submitted by the state government for 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 after Indepen-dent members questioned the steps initiated to check the practice.

Cops? meet

The Assam government has convened a meeting of senior police officials to look into the complaints of alleged harassment meted out to members of the NDFB on August 29.

Bill tabled

Dispur on Wednesday introduced the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Bill 2005. The bill was tabled by the minister of welfare of plain tribes and backward classes Bharat Chandra Narah.

Gunpowder

Police on Wednesday recovered gunpowder, broken pieces of bottles and remote control batteries from a bus at Mokhrapara under Kokrajhar police station.

Demonstration

Delegates of the Coordination Committee of Minority Organisations from Assam on Wednesday staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar reiterating their demand for a law similar to the erstwhile IM(DT) Act.

Demise

Former Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Dambarudhar Pathak passed away at his Guwahati residence on Wednesday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has condoled his death.

The NF Railway has set up a tourist information centre at Guwahati station.
