Nagamese dictionary Drive Foundation Duo arrested AASU sit-in Fraud Dharna

Jorhat, Dec. 27: The first Nagamese dictionary written by linguist and lexicographer Bhimkanta Barua was released here today.

Drive

Jorhat: The Jorhat district Tobacco Control Cell, in an enforcement drive on Friday, collected fines to the tune of Rs 3,500 and fined 25 people under COTPA 2003 here.

Foundation

Dibrugarh: DoNER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar laid the foundation of the Dibrugarh Handloom Trade Centre in the Chowkidinghee area of the Upper Assam town on Friday.

Duo arrested

Jorhat: Prasanta Bora and Bhaskarjyoti Saikia, the president and secretary of KMSS Ganatantrik, were sent to jail on Friday for trespassing into a business establishment of M.D. Gattani here on Wednesday.

AASU sit-in

Jorhat: The Majuli unit of AASU staged a two-hour sit-in in front of the Brahmaputra Board office on the island. They demanded the speedy completion of the spurs, cancelling of the work order of the company engaged in construction of spurs and placing of geobags and boulders instead of sand bags at Sumoimari.

Fraud

Jorhat: The district Congress tea cell president, Thakurlal Bagti, and an employee of Union Cooperative Bank here were arrested on Friday on charges of fraudulently withdrawing money from the bank, deposited to fund rural taxis for tea and former tea workers.

Dharna

Guwahati: The All Assam Water and Sanitation Workers Association staged a demonstration at Betkuchi on Friday, seeking fulfillment of various demands.
