The district administration has imposed restrictions on parking along the stretch of National Highway 37 that passes through Kaziranga National Park (KNP) from Barjuri to Bagori and declared it a no-parking zone.

“The prohibition on parking is imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC and is meant basically for commercial goods-carrying vehicles. Illegal parking along the highway is restricting the movement of wildlife crossing the animal corridors,” said Golaghat deputy commissioner Dhirendra Nath Hazarika.

“The National Green Tribunal has also given a directive to regulate the movement of traffic on the roads used by animals as corridors,” he added.

On parking of tourist vehicles, Hazarika said those and other passenger vehicles are exempted.
