New DG of Assam Rifles takes over - Lt gen. r.k. rana replaces lt gen. ranbir singh

Shillong, May 26: An alumnus of Sainik School, Karnal, today took over as the new director-general of the Assam Rifles.

Lt Gen. R.K. Rana was appointed as the 28th director-general of the paramili- tary force. He took over from Lt Gen. Ranbir Singh who retired on March 31 this year.

Gen. Rana was commissioned in June 1976 in the Rajputana Rifles. In an illustrious career spanning 37 years, he has a coveted career profile both in command and in staff appointments.

The new director-general had commanded an infantry battalion in counter-insurgency operations, a mountain brigade, an infantry division on the Sino-Indian border and the Special Frontier Force in the cabinet secretariat.

On staff assignments, the officer has held the assignments of General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of an infantry division, director (operational logistics at army headquarters), Colonel General Staff of an area headquarters, deputy director-general (welfare) at army headquarters and General Officer Commanding of an area headquarters.

An alumnus of the prestigious defence institutions such as the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Gen. Rana had done instructional tenures at the NDA, Khadakwasla, the Commando Wing, Belgaum and the Infantry School, Mhow.
