Kohima, Nov. 26: Naga Hoho, the apex body of the Nagas, today insisted on an acceptable and honourable solution to the Naga political problem at the earliest.
The statement comes against the backdrop of the ongoing peace talks between the Centre and the NSCN (I-M), led by chairman Isak Chishi Swu and general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah, in New Delhi.
The Hoho, which concluded its 10th general conference at Wokha this evening, asked the Centre for an honourable and acceptable solution for the Nagas living in different states of the Northeast.
The two-day conference was attended by over 300 delegates from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam. But there was no one from Arunachal Pradesh or neighbouring Myanmar, which has a sizeable Naga population.
“We urged the Centre for an early settlement of the issue which should be acceptable and honourable to the Naga people,” Elu Ndang, a member of the organising committee, said.
The delegates said they would strengthen and extend all possible support to the Naga Hoho. The re-affirmation follows opposition to the conference but some people.
The Hoho, however, held the meet despite the opposition and warning.
The recently formed Naga Tribes Council (NTC) is a strong critic of the Hoho. It accuses the Hoho of not working in the interest of the Nagas.
The Hoho, in turn, has accused the NTC of being an “un-mandated” outfit whose members work for their vested interest. The conference was marked by a cultural programme and a marathon discussion on various issues.
Former general secretary of the Hoho, Chuba Ozukum, was elected its president and Mutsikoyo Chakhesang its general secretary.
