Shillong, Feb. 28: GNLA militants attacked the vehicle of the sub-divisional police officer of Ampati, West Garo Hills, Sacheng R. Marak, at Ramdapara, on the outskirts of the district headquarters of Tura, this afternoon.

Police said while Marak and his securitymen were proceeding in a vehicle from Tura to Barengapara, around 10 GNLA militants tried to ambush the police team at Ramdapara, 10km from Barengapara, by firing from a hillock around 12.30pm.

Three bullets fired by the militants hit the vehicle. No one was injured.

The police personnel who were accompanying Marak retaliated, forcing the militants to retreat.

The police believe the attack was led by Baichung Momin, the GNLA area commander.
