Manipur win it all

Imphal, June 26: Manipur claimed both the men’s and women’s titles of the 8th East Zone Baseball Championship held at Khuman Lampak sports complex.

In a rain-drenched men’s final, Manipur outplayed Assam by 12-2 runs to lift the champion’s title, while for the women’s category Manipur upset Assam by 7-0 runs.

Despite the soggy outfield, Manipur held their ground, smashing seven runs in the first innings while the Assam batsmen drew nil.

Raju Singh and Prem Singh fetched one home run each while Tingular Singh, Nongthang Singh, Ranjit Singh, Lalit Singh and David Singh scored a run each to take the Manipur lead to seven runs.

Later in the second innings, Assam batsman Nazir and Rabin managed to make up for lost ground scoring a run each but the Manipur boys rounded off with five more runs from Raju Singh, Prem Singh, Tingular Singh, Ranjit Singh and Lalit Singh for the victory.

Of the three teams, Manipur won both games to emerge winner of the league.

While Assam won one match against Bihar to finish runners-up, Bihar lost both their games in the league.

In the women’s final, host Manipur thrashed Assam by 7-0 runs.

Luxmi Devi, Rebita Devi, Diana Devi, Nanao Devi, Monika Devi, Ronila Devi and Sunita Devi scored one run each for the title.

Football: Football Lovers Association Manipur thrashed Nambul Mapal NAVSA by 5-1 goals in the 1st Ng. Shamu Memorial Veteran FootballTournament at Malom YWC ground.

Hosts Tiddim Road Veteran Football Association held Chingtam Veteran by 1-1 goals in another match.
