Guwahati: The CID sleuths on Tuesday evening arrested Ajit Tiwari, 40, from Noonmati here for allegedly running an IPL betting racket.
The CID had received information that a few people were running the racket in the shop owned by Tiwari at Noonmati. Two alleged accomplices, identified as Prasanta Deb and Alok Jain, are absconding. A sum of Rs 33,000 was seized from Tiwari. "He had taken names of some businessmen and we are investigating their involvement. More arrests likely to be made," the source said.
The CID registered the case under provisions of the Assam Games and Betting Act, 1970.
