
Dhemaji: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay the foundation stone for a Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) hospital at Sriram Chapori (Mahbheti) in Assam's Upper Majuli on Thursday.
A few days ago, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had declared that two Ayush hospitals will be set up in the state - one at Dudhnoi in Goalpara and another in Majuli district - for which funds of Rs 7.5 crore has been earmarked
Ayush, a governmental body in the country, was established to develop education and research in Ayurveda.
It was created in March 1995 as a department of Indian system of medicine and homeopathy under the ministry of health and family welfare.
The ministry of Ayush was formed on November 9, 2014.
The BJP, in it's election manifesto, said it would increase public investment to promote it and start an integrated course for an Indian system of medicine.
Central water resource minister Nitin Gadkari on December 29 will inaugurate a Rs 237-crore Brahmaputra flood and erosion protection project at Raunpara, to be executed by the Brahmaputra Board.
Another Rs 61-crore flood and erosion scheme of the state government will be inaugurated at the same function.
Water resource minister Keshab Mahanta was on a two-day visit to Majuli on Friday and Saturday to take stock of the progress in the flood and erosion scheme.
Mahanta was accompanied by Majuli deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and officials from his department.
