Guwahati, Nov. 2: The guests are special and so are the menus.
The two hotels that will host the India and Pakistan teams for Monday’s One-Day International in the city are pulling out all stops to extend a traditional Assamese welcome to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Shoaib Malik’s boys.
The teams are expected to arrive in the city around noon on Sunday and leave on Tuesday morning.
The chefs of Landmark Hotels, where the Indian team will stay, and of Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok, which will host the Pakistanis, are preparing not only to dish out the exact dietary requirements of the players, but also to serve a special fare.
Chef Sanjay Pasari of Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok will prepare special dishes from the North West Frontier Province for the guests.
A source, who is part of the hotel’s food selection and preparation team, said the menu includes chappal kabab (a meat kebab prepared in the shape of a sole) — a famous dish of Peshawar. Besides, there will be meat tikka (meat barbecue) and meat karai (oil-rich stew with tomato and chillies).
“Apart from the specific dishes asked for by the Cricket Board of Pakistan, we will also serve Assamese delicacies for our guests. Though the players are very particular in their food habits, we have been told that some of them enjoy other dishes as well after a match,” an official of Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok said.
The Assamese dishes will include masor tenga, khar, aloo pitika and preparations with bamboo shoots. The menu for lunch and dinner will include both Mughlai and Continental.
The official said the hotel was also planning a cultural programme, including Bihu dance, for the visitors after the match.
At the Landmark Hotels, brisk preparations are on to serve “healthy and the best food” to the guests.
An official of the hotel said the “pavilion lunch” on the day of the match will be an assortment of dishes, combining the dietary requirements of the two teams.
“On Sunday night, we were told, members of the Indian team will prefer eating in their rooms,” he added.
For breakfast on Monday and Tuesday, the hotel will serve fruit juice, fresh fruits, idli, utthapam, toast, jam, jelly, honey, peanut butter, butter, marmalade, boiled eggs, muffin, sliced chicken, aloo paratha with curd, puri sabji, Danis pastry, croissant, broisch and cashewnuts.
“We will host high tea on Monday. The menu includes grilled sandwich, peas patties, cashewnuts, bird’s nest with French fries, muffins and nutty brownie,” the official said.
He said rajma would be served for V. Sehwag, curd rice for S. Sreesanth and tandoori dishes for Harbhajan Singh as requested.
