Jorhat, Oct. 26: Kaushik Bora, executive director-designate of Indian Oil Corporation, Assam area division, posted at Digboi in Tinsukia district, has been missing since this afternoon.

Police sources said family members of the 55-year-old Bora, who hailed from Nagaon district, lodged an FIR with Digboi police station late this afternoon stating that he had gone missing after he left his residence around 10 this morning in his Alto. Family members said Bora’s mobile phone was found switched off after they tried to contact him.

Police sources said Bora’s red Alto, bearing number AS 23 3412, was found abandoned on the Digboi-Pengeri-Bordumsa road, about 10km from Digboi town.

Sources said Bora, who has been provided with an official vehicle and a driver by IOC, apparently had no need to go towards Pengeri and that too on a Sunday.

Sources said the road where the vehicle was found, was infested by criminals and cadres of Ulfa (Independent). Lately, Maoists, too, had reportedly become active in the area.

Tinsukia additional superintendent of police (headquarters), L. Doungel, told The Telegraph tonight that they were working on the case. He said all possible angles were being investigated.

Inspector-general of police (law and order) S.N. Singh told The Telegraph that so far they have not found any sign of abduction and investigation is on.

Digboi Refinery is India’s oldest refinery, commissioned in 1901. Originally a part of the Assam Oil Company, it became part of Indian Oil in 1981. According to the IOC website, Digboi Refinery processed 0.66 million tonnes of crude oil during 2013, against 0.62 million tonnes of crude oil in 2012.

The refinery presently produces motor spirit and high-speed diesel.
