Imphal, July 28: Imphal West today came up trumps in the under-17 inter-school girls’ football tournament at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

In the closely-contested final, a solitary goal by Imphal West’s Ng. Anibala Devi in the second half sealed Thoubal School’s fate.

The Thoubal girls troubled their opponents with numerous attacks though they failed to find the all-important equaliser because of the absence of an able scorer.

Imphal West had to wait for a long time for the goal.

Attacks and counter-attacks made the first half a see-saw battle though none of the teams could open their account.

In the 3rd minute of the second half, Kh. Rita Devi of Imphal West got a pass and started running along the left flank, slicing the Thoubal team’s defence. The ball reached just short of her teammate Anibala Devi.

In the melee, goalkeeper Y. Sophiya Devi rushed out but collided with a defender and lost sight of the ball.

Anibala Devi made no mistake in netting the shot, much to the relief of the Imphal West bench.

The two teams received a token amount along with certificates from the youth affairs and sports department.
