
Shillong: The two-day 10th annual Golf Cup of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, concluded here on Sunday.
Altogether 150 golfers competed in different categories. Several guests, including industry stalwarts, academicians, government officials and professional golfers from across the country participated in the event. It was hosted at Shillong Golf Course, also known as "Gleneagles of the East" as it is one of the few natural golf courses in Asia.
The event, organised in association with Meghalaya Tourism, State Bank of India, Indian Oil and Oil India Ltd was officially teed off by former chairman-cum-managing director of Shipping Corporation of India and current member of the board of governors of IIM Shillong Sabyasachi Hajara in the presence of the institute's director Amitabha De.
The Golf Cup aids interaction between corporate heads and IIM students. The event providedan opportunity for students to acquire leadership skills from the industry doyens.
Leaders from corporate sectors such as Exide Life Insurance, Proman Infrastructure Services Pvt Ltd, SM Electronic Technologies Pvt Ltd, Vistara Tata Airlines, Puranika and Company, Johnson Controls India Pvt Ltd, Gensuite graced the lawns.
IIM Shillong is the first Indian B-school to host its own golf invitational tournament, the first edition of which was held in 2009. The institute also held the annual management fest, Khlurthma, which was organised in association with the official title partner Union Bank of India.
Khlurthma and Golf Cup Extravaganza concluded with a valedictory ceremony held at the state convention centre in the presence of the chairman of IIM Shillong, Shishir Bajoria.
The winners across different categories were declared in the closing ceremony which was followed by a cultural programme. There were separate categories for corporate representatives, ladies and juniors.
The winners include Prakash Pathaw, Daniel S. Jyrwa, Jagdish Singh, C.P. Borkar Idse, Sanjay Bakshi and L. Sanghom. Among the ladies, Pooja Goenka and Jeevan Sharma in the professional category and Lt Col C.Y. Meitei in the outstation category were the winners.
