HIGH IDEALS: Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar hoisted this Tricolour on a 100-foot mast, donated by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, in front of Ujjayanta Palace here on Wednesday. Sarkar said it is the duty of every Indian to respect the Tricolour. Ujjayanta Palace, the former abode of Tripura's Manikya kings, houses the state museum. Sarkar also inaugurated the statues of freedom fighter Masterda Surya Sen and Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya Bahadur on the palace compound. The Maharaja built Ujjayanta Palace in 1901. 'Many army and paramilitary personnel sacrifice their lives every year to uphold the spirit of the Tricolour,' the chief minister said. ONGC asset manager G.K. Singha Roy said the flag is a token of respect to the spirit of India and national values.Sarkar praised Maharaja Radhkishore Manikya for his contribution in building the palace. 'Ujjayanta Palace had housed the Assembly for years before it turned into the state museum in 2013. We can't possibly forget the king who built it,' he added. Text by Debraj Deb, picture by UB Photo
