Help at hand

Dibrugarh University handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to Gita Bora, wife of late Mahendra Bora, on Tuesday. Bora was a professor of the university's Assamese department and also the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Dibrugarh University handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to Gita Bora, wife of late Mahendra Bora, on Tuesday. Bora was a professor of the university's Assamese department and also the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

The university said the amount was given from the vice-chancellor's discretionary fund. Since Bora's demise in 1996, his family has been wallowing in penury. His family has also not received any pension. The university's registrar, M.N. Dutta, dean of School of humanities and social sciences Karabi Deka Hazarika and executive officer Pankaj Borthakur handed over the cheque to the family.
