Guwahati, Sept. 18: A two-member central team held a meeting today with the state government on the drought situation in Assam to decide on the quantum of financial assistance to be given. he team took into account rainfall, irrigation and damage to crops.

NFR pledge

Guwahati: NF Railway has decided to provide accommodation to the additional security personnel being rushed to NC Hills to counter the threat posed by Dima Halam Daogah (J) group to the guage conversion project there. The commitment, according to home department sources, was made on Thursday.

Hailakandi: Police on Saturday found the body of Prakash Nayak, a retired army person, hanging from a ceiling in a hotel of Badarpur town in the Barak Valley.

Surrender

Hailakandi: A man identified as Altaf Hussain has surrendered before police on Monday. He had killed his neighbour Ishad Ali Mazumdar over a boundary dispute in Bangalpur village under Lala circle in Hailakandi on Sunday night.
