Probe order

Guwahati, May 10: The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti today welcomed the Supreme Court’s order for the CBI enquiry into Saradha scam. The peasants’ body had earlier demanded a CBI probe into the scam.

Protest

Dhubri: Hundreds of people staged a sit-in in front of South Salmara police station in Dhubri district on Saturday to protest against lynching of two persons by villagers of Patakata on May 5. The protesters alleged that the duo had come to the village to collect money from a person but they were lynched by a mob.

Counting

Kokrajhar: Chirang district administration has done all necessary arrangements for peaceful counting of votes on May 16. Chirang DC Virendra Mittal said counting personnel had already been appointed and imparted training as per EC guidelines.

Suicide

B>n Guwahati: The body of a nurse, Rekha Nath Kalita, was found hanging from the ventilator of her house in the city’s Rupnangar area on Saturday. Police said although her husband suspected it to be suicide, aprobe was on to ascertain the exact cause of her death.

Mishap

Tezpur: Gulap Nath, 35, of Da-Beseria area of Tezpur died on the spot on Saturday after he was knocked down by an army vehicle at Mission Chariali area. Irate people later damaged the army vehicle.

Editor dies

Kokrajhar: Former editor of Bodoland Radab, a Bodo weekly newspaper published from Kokrajhar, and owner of Orkhi Printers and Publishers, Dinesh Sing Borgoyary, died after a cardiac attack at his residence here on Friday evening. He was 50.

Train stopped

Itanagar: Continuous rain and opposition by various students’ organisations have led to the termination of train services into Arunachal Pradesh.
