Manipur active cases rise to 28

All confirmed patients have returned from different cities recently; no instance of community transmission till now

Three more persons tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, taking the tally of confirmed cases to 32 in Manipur. While four patients have recovered, there are 28 active cases.

The new three cases include a 32-year-old man from Jiribam district, a 25-year-old woman from Thoubal district and an 18-year-old from Churachandpur district. The teenager is one of the returnees from Chennai.

Tests for 285 individuals were done at the virus research and diagnostic laboratories (VRDLs) of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Sunday and all results were negative.

A spokesperson for the state health department, Kh. Sasheekumar, said with the functioning of the Truenat machines installed at the two VRDLs recently, the testing capacity will significantly improve. So far, 4,583 persons have been tested at the two VRDLs, he said. All confirmed cases have returned from different cities recently. There has been no instance of community transmission till now. More than 10,000 people of Manipur who were stranded in indifferent cities have returned to the state by train or bus or private vehicles.
