The Nalbari district administration has suspended the licences of six fair-price shops for allegedly distributing less rice than the allotted amount.

Deputy commissioner Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury said, “After the public complaints that less quantity of rice than allotted quota under the National Food Security Scheme was being distributed, we conducted an inquiry and took action after finding the anomalies.”

Administration sources said the fair-price shopkeepers are Atikur Rahman in Barkhetri Barni, Nalini Kumar Sarma in Chilling, Ajit Deka in Hawlighat, Dilip Barman in Adattari Bishnupur, Atikur Rahman in Sapkata and Khairul Hussain in Borigaon in Nalbari district.

Choudhury had ordered the circle officer of Barkhetri revenue circle as well as an executive magistrate Kangkan Sarma to probe into a similar complaint against Badshah Ali, a fair-price shopowner in Kurihamari sar in the Assam district.
