Cooch Behar move to round II

Kokrajhar, Oct. 14: Cooch Behar Municipality Recreation Club, Bengal, edged past hosts DASA XI, Dotma, 1-0 today to move into the next round of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy at Dotma in Kokrajhar district.

In an evenly contested match, the first half remained barren with both teams creating a few chances but failing to penetrate each other's defence.

However, in the 73rd minute, striker Arabindo Paul broke the shackles for the lone goal that saw the Bengal team have the last laugh.

Tomorrow, Salbagan FC, Gossaigaon, will play Bongaigaon XI.

Altogether 12 teams, including South Eastern Railway (Jharkhand), Salbagan FC (Gossaigaon), Bardwisikhla FC (Kachugaon), Bongaigaon XI, City Police (Guwahati), ASEB SC (Guwahati), Cooch Behar Municipality Recreation Club and DASA XI are participating in the championship, which is organised every year in the memory of "Bodoland" martyrs.

The final will be played on October 23.

T. Ao soccer: Manipur will take on Meghalaya in the opening match of the seventh NEC T. Ao Football Championship at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday.

Manipur, led by M. Govin, is clustered in pool A along with Assam and Meghalaya while Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura are in pool B.

The final of the tournament will take place on October 24, reports our sports correspondent from Imphal.
