Silchar, June 22: Kamalendu Bhattacharjee, a former Rajya Sabha MP and a one-time senior Congress party leader, formally re-joined the party today.

He had renounced the Congress in 2006 to join the AUDF.

Bhattacharjee, 65, was a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam for a six-year term between 1984 and 1990.

Rail blockade: The AASU-sponsored two hour rail blockade on Monday from 11am failed to have an impact. Railway official sources said apart from three passenger trains, which were detained for sometime, services were smooth throughout the state during the blockade.
