Shillong, July 9: An alleged Ulfa cadre was yesterday arrested from West Garo Hills district while he was trying to enter neighbouring Bangladesh.

Three other untrained cadres, however, managed to flee.

Based on inputs, around 8pm, a BSF team from Chicha-ngpara border outpost in West Garo Hills apprehended a senior Ulfa cadre while he was allegedly trying to sneak into Bangladesh.

The apprehended cadre has been identified as self-styled “sergeant” Ratul Pathai alias Rahul, 34, hailing from Assam’s Barpeta district.

The BSF team recovered Rs 800, a mobile phone with a SIM card and a bag from him.

During preliminary questioning, the apprehended cadre said he was going to Bangladesh to meet Ulfa leader Dristi Rajkhowa. There were three more untrained cadres with him.

However, they managed to escape, a BSF statement said.
