Militant held

Kokrajhar, Oct. 2: An NDFB (Songbijit) militant, identified as Gendra Basumatary alias Galore, 24, was apprehended from the Bismuri Galabari area in Kokrajhar district today in a joint operation by the army and police. One 7.62mm pistol and two live ammunition of the pistol were recovered from him.

? Jorhat: Police arrested the principal of Jatiya Vidyalaya at
Cinnamara, Dibyajyoti Sarmah, on Friday after the father of a Class X student lodged an FIR, alleging that Sarmah had beaten his son on Thursday on charges of misdemeanour. Sarmah, who has denied the charges, was released on bail.

Body found
? Dhubri: The body of Robial Islam, 18, of Khopati-Gotabari village under Sukcar police station in South Salmara-Mancachar police district, was recovered on Friday. Islam had drowned while bathing in the Brahmaputra at Kadmtali village adjacent to Khopati on Tuesday.
Jumbo herd
? Dhubri: A herd of seven wild elephants, which has entered villages of Dhubri district from Garo hills of Meghalaya, has been on the rampage since Thursday. No forest officials from Mancachar has visited the area to push the elephants back into Garo hills, villagers alleged.
