Singer dies

Kokrajhar, Sept. 4: Bodo singer, musician, lyricist and social worker Phanindra Nath Brahma, popularly known as Phani Serja for his signature Serja (a kind of violin) music, died in a hospital in Siliguri in West Bengal today after prolonged illness.

Dhubri: Police locked and sealed the office of a chit fund company, Amrit Project, in Dhubri town on Thursday night.

Arrested

Jorabat: Police on Friday arrested five persons with a rhino horn from Sonapur in Kamrup (metro). The horn has been sent for forensic examination.

Man drowns

Guwahati: A 42-year-old businessman, Shankar Das, died when his Maruti Alto, which he was reversing, fell into Khanajaan canal near his house in Dharapur on the city's outskirts around 11.45pm on Thursday, police said.

Jorhat: The BJP's Kishan Morcha members on Friday staged a demonstration in front of Jorhat deputy commissioner's office against "large scale corruption" in the state agriculture department.
