Kokrajhar, Oct. 24: The Bodoland People’s Progressive Front (BPPF) today suspended Subhra Narzary, one of the senior party functionaries after she was arrested with a consignment of arms and ammunition yesterday in the Bagori area of Kaziranga National Park.

The BPPF today held an emergency meeting at the party office where it took the decision of suspending Subhra from the party.

Later, addressing the media at the party office here, BPPF president Rabiram Narzary announced the suspension of Subhra from the party. Subhra is one of the secretaries of the party’s women’s wing. She contested the last BTC election as BPPF’s official candidate, losing to BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary.

Two of her personnel security guards, Dilip Nath and Subash Marak of Assam Police, and her driver Hiranya Brahma were also arrested.

Expressing shock over the way Subhra was arrested and recovery of arms from her vehicle, party president Rabiram Narzary said: “We are surprised and find it hard to believe.”

Rabiram Narzary said the party cannot take responsibility for her action. “She has knowingly or unknowingly committed the crime. It is her personal action and not related to the party. It is her individual action at her own risk. The party cannot take responsibility for her action. She has kept the party in the dark,” he said.

“The BPPF has always been against violence and raising voice against it and will continue to do so. If any of our party man is involved in any unlawful act we will not defend him or her,” Rabiram Narzary added.

Subhra termed the incident “a conspiracy by BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary to take political revenge” against her.
