Guwahati, April 25: Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass today reconstituted the party's state committee, four months after his appointment.
Biwarup Bhattacharjee, Manoj Ram Phukan, Bimal Oswal, Taufik Rahman, Diganta Ghatowar, Surabhi Rajkuwari, Lonki Phangshu and Sushila Hazarika have been appointed vice-presidents.
The others include Dilip Saikia, Mriganka Barman and Pulak Gohain as general secretary and Phanindra Nath Sarma as general secretary (organisation). It also includes Ajay Konwar (joint general secretary-organisation), Raj Kumar Sharma (treasurer), Jugabala Buragohain, Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Sibnath Brahma, Debapratim Bora, Himani Adhikari, Kishore Upadhyay, Rajib Sarma and Diplu Ranjan Sarma (secretaries).
Rajdeep Roy, Jayanta Kumar Das, Hemanta Kalita, Mehdi Alom Bora, Meghna Hazarika, Pramod Swami and Aparajita Bhuyan have been appointed the spokespersons.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his ministerial colleagues Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Parimal Suklabaidya, Ranjit Dutta, Pallab Lochan Das and Naba Kumar Doley, and Deputy Speaker Dilip Kumar Paul were named executive members of the committee.
Union minister of state for railways Rajen Gohain and Lok Sabha MPs Bijoya Chakraborty, Ramen Deka, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Pradan Baruah, Rameswar Teli and R.P. Sharma and former state BJP president and MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya were also appointed executive members.
Announcing the new committee, Dass requested all the office-bearers and spokespersons to take charge with immediate effect.
He said all the MLAs, chairman/vice-chairman of corporations, chief executive of the BJP-led councils will be the ex-officio invitee members of the new committee.
The state BJP reconstituted its committee close on the heels of the state Congress constituting its committee on April 22.
A party source said Dass has taken care to maintain a balance and give representation to all sections in the new committee. "Many new faces and women have found place in the reconstituted committee," the source said.
On several ministers and MPs finding a berth in the executive, he said they were party workers too and so had been given certain responsibilities to strengthen the party in the state.
The source said the first executive meeting of the new committee will be held here on April 29 and 30.
Sonowal and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav will attend the executive meeting.
