Guwahati: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) will open multi-facility fuel pumps at 40 locations across the state.
ASTC managing director Anand Prakash Tiwari on Tuesday said the fuel stations will be set up on unused land of the corporation to shore up additional revenue. "We have signed an agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) to set up the petrol pumps, which will be operated by the ASTC," he said.
Tiwari said these fuel pumps will have shops, eateries, air and lubricant stations.
"We are also in touch with Reliance Petrochemicals and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for similar ventures," he said.
Tiwari said the government had approved a proposal for ASTC to open fitness-testing centres for commercial vehicles across the state, which will become another revenue source of the loss-making corporation. "We will also start construction of transport plazas on ASTC's vacant land at 15 places from next month on a pilot basis. These plazas will be constructed at Silchar, Rangia, Biswanath, Jagiroad, Kharupetia and Dalgaon. Stalls and spaces in these plazas will be let out for commercial purpose," he said.
"Depending on the success of the pilot project, we have plans to construct plazas at more places," he said.
Tiwari said the corporation will procure 15 electric buses within the next four to five months, which will ply between Kamakhya temple and different locations in the city.
The corporation will buy the buses from the subsidy given by the Centre under faster adoption and manufacturing of (hybrid) and electric vehicles in India (FAME) scheme.
Guwahati is one among 11 cities shortlisted by the Union ministry of heavy industries for introduction of electric vehicles in the public transportation system under FAME to give a fillip to the Centre's Electric Vehicle Mission.
